Ashley’s story:
Ashley Byers-Schoonover was born into a domestic situation in Missouri. At six-months old Ashley was taken away from the drug addict parents and raised by her grandparents as their own. She thought her “mom” was her sister. Ashely led a tomboy life as a small child, riding horses, playing in the woods, and spent quality time with her sweet, and disabled grandfather. She loved the outdoors and steered clear of the indoors and her verbally abusive mom/grandmother. At age 13, Ashely found out the truth about her parents. She wanted to meet her dad’s side of the family and visited Texas and met her half-sister who is 13 years Ashley’s senior. Ashely’s father passed away in 2008. After hearing about Ashley life, her sister offered refuge if ever needed. At age 14, Ashley took her sister up on the offer and moved to Texas where her sister Heather became her legal guardian.
Ashley flourished here in Burleson, making new friends, a new life, and joining FFA. She did great with the FAA and took home many amazing awards and accomplishments. Among those, Ashley showed her beef heifer, Emery, of two years. This past year Ashley and Emery went to stock shows all over Texas and won Grand Champion in her breed (Santa Gertrudis) in the county show.
Ashley graduated from high school this year, and became an independent adult. She started working at a summer camp for kids, working for room and board until time to move into the dorms at Tarleton University in Stephenville in the Fall.
Ashley found time to still visit her favorite thing in the world, Emery. In fact, she was on her way home from visiting Emery when she had her life altering auto accident. They lost control while driving through winding country roads; the truck flipped and rolled; Ashely was ejected. She sustained six fractures in her pelvis, two in her back, and two in her foot. We were all thankful there were no internal injuries and frankly, that she survived. Ashley learned an invaluable lesson about the importance of seatbelt safety and would like to share that with everyone. She is living proof that seatbelt safety is important! #buckleup
As an adult on her own, Ashley has grand responsibilities: medical bills (care flight, hospital, Dr’s, etc), physical therapy, she needs a vehicle, and is starting life as an independent woman and college student.
Ashley, her family, and all of her good friends would appreciate any and all donations towards Ashley's cause. Many lessons were learned during this event, and God must really have a strong purpose for Ashley's future to keep her around. We thank all of you in advance, and any and all donations given will go to Ashley fund.
